Matthew "Matt" Tegenkamp (born January 19, 1982 in Lee's Summit ) is an American long-distance runner .

In 2001 he became US junior cross-country champion and was fifth in the junior race of the World Cross-Country Championships .

In 2006, 2007 and 2008 he became US runner-up in the 5000 meter run . In 2007 he became national indoor champion in the 3000 meter run , set a US record over two miles (3218 meters) with 8: 07.07 min and was fourth in the 5000 m at the World Athletics Championships in Osaka .

In 2008 he defended his US indoor title over 3000 m and came in 13th place at the Olympic Games in Beijing over 5000 m.

In 2009 he was over 5000 m US champion and eighth at the World Championships in Berlin .

Tegenkamp is 1.85 m tall and weighs 66 kg. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in human ecology . He has been married since October 2006. He lives in Portland ( Oregon ), is trained by Jerry Schumacher and starts for the Oregon Track Club.
