Matthias Arndt

Matthias Arndt (* 1968 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German art and culture manager. He was the founder of the Arndt & Partner gallery and is an expert in Asian contemporary art.

Life

After graduating from high school, Arndt first completed a bank training and switched to the art business at the age of 20. In addition to his studies in art science and art education at the Kassel Art College , he ran a gallery project in Kassel from 1990 to 1992, for which he received the city's cultural sponsorship award. At documenta X 1997 he was - together with Ulrike Kremeier - responsible for the tour and visitor services and founded the company artservices for this purpose . This was followed by the conception of the Berlin art platform Kunstherbst Berlin , the development of the visitor service for Expo 2000 , and advice to the TUI Group commissioned with the implementation. After all, Arndt designed the AUTOSTADT Wolfsburg tour and visitor service with artservices for Volkswagen AG . From 1996 to 2004 he worked as a lecturer at the Institute for Culture and Media Management in Berlin. Matthias Arndt lives in Berlin and Melbourne.

Working as a gallery owner

In autumn 1994 Matthias Arndt opened the Arndt & Partner gallery together with the picture restorer Anna Lubinus, first in the Hackesche Höfe in Berlin, and later in various locations in the city. Until 2016, the gallery held around 320 exhibitions in Berlin in Zurich, New York, Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore as well as 140 international trade fair participations, including at Art Basel , Frieze Art Fair , Art Cologne and Art Basel Miami and Art Basel Hong Kong. Arndt is the editor of over 70 artist monographs, catalog raisonnés and thematic publications. Artists represented include Gilbert & George , Sophie Calle , Erik Bulatov , Jitish Kallat, Rodel Tapaya, Jigger Cruz, Eko Nugroho, Entang Wiharso and Julian Rosefeldt .

Matthias Arndt has continued his activities under the ARNDT company since spring 2010 . In Singapore since January 2013, he is organizing thematic exhibitions and individual presentations by artists from China and Southeast Asia until 2017. ARNDT also designs curatorial projects in the commercial and institutional areas and in unconventional locations. Arndt works, beyond the conventional gallery business, as an expert for artists, private and corporate collections and museums. ARNDT fine art Singapore was temporarily based in the Gillman Barracks, an art center in a former British barracks. In 2015 Matthias Arndt founded the Arndt Art Agency (A3) in Berlin, which advises artists and museums.
