Life

Bierbaum attended elementary school in Neusiedl and the community school in Poysdorf before he graduated from an agricultural school. Bierbaum did his military and war service between 1937 and 1945, where he was ultimately taken prisoner by the British. Bierbaum then worked as a farmer. Bierbaum was awarded the professional title of economics councilor.

He began his public career in the early 1950s, as a member of the Presidium of the Lower Austrian Farmers' Union (from 1950) and as a district chamber councilor in Zistersdorf . In 1955 he became a regional chamber councilor in the Lower Austrian Chamber of Agriculture before he appeared as chairman of the Mistelbach regional chamber of farmers from 1960. Furthermore, Bierbaum was regional hunter master of Lower Austria from 1966 to 1991 . When he was active in the grain market regime, he was confronted with the problem of surpluses.

After he had previously held the office of vice mayor of his home town of Neusiedl, Bierbaum was elected mayor of the town of Neusiedl an der Zaya in 1960. He held that position for 30 years before stepping down in 1990 at the age of 73. During his time as mayor he sealed the partnership between the community of Neusiedl and the community of Kaltenbach in the Zillertal with the then partner mayor Hans Scheffauer . The contact came mainly through Bierbaum's relationship with the local and internationally active vehicle manufacturer Empl and its managing director Josef “Pepi” Empl, with whom Bierbaum had a long friendship, and Bierbaum's family vacations in Kaltenbach.

Bierbaum was the initiator, sponsor, co-founder and first president of the ÖTB TV Neusiedl / Zaya association, which was founded in 1971 .
