Matthias Engelsberger

Matthias Engelsberger (born July 18, 1925 in Siegsdorf ; † October 30, 2005 ) was a German CSU politician . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1969 to 1990 .

Life

Engelsberger's political career began in 1956 as a councilor in Siegsdorf, and in 1960 he also moved into the district council of the Traunstein district with the mandate of the CSU . In 1969 he was elected to the German Bundestag for the first time, in which he always moved in as a direct candidate for the Traunstein constituency in the following five electoral terms.

Even after his election to the German Bundestag, he remained a member of the district and municipal council until 1984. From 1966 to 1972 he was deputy district administrator of the Traunstein district.

The politician was a representative of the interests of medium-sized companies in Bavaria. He belonged to the Association of the Bavarian Sawmill and Wood Industry and was committed to maintaining the traditional locations of wood processing companies in rural areas. This also included the use of hydropower to generate electricity . Engelsberger was one of the initiators for the creation of the Electricity Feed Act . Engelsberger was honorary president of the Federal Association of German Hydropower Plants (BDW) and the Federal Association of Renewable Energy (BEE).

His successor as a constituency member of the Traunstein constituency was Peter Ramsauer , also from the CSU.

In 1980 Engelsberger was honored with the Bavarian Order of Merit for his services. Since 1986 he has also been the recipient of the Order of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1988 he received the Grand Decoration of Honor in Gold for services to the Republic of Austria . In 1992 he was awarded the Bavarian Environmental Medal.
