Matthias Gastel (born December 26, 1970 in Stuttgart ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and entrepreneur .

biography

Gastel first completed a commercial apprenticeship and did his community service in a youth welfare facility with a special school. He completed a one-year professional training in elderly care . Finally he studied social pedagogy in Reutlingen and later, while working, business administration in the form of a distance learning course . He spent ten years in residential care ( residential care ) until it first in 2006 as a staffing company independently made. After his business was continued by another company, he went into business mediation again. He also works as a practical teacher in the training of educators.

politics

In 1989 Matthias Gastel joined the party "The Greens" (today Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). From 1994 to 2014 he was a member of the Filderstadt municipal council ; until 2014 he was chairman of the parliamentary group . From 1999 to 2014 he was also a member of the district council in Esslingen . In the state elections in Baden-Wuerttemberg in 2011 , he ran as a second candidate of the case to the Prime Minister elected Winfried Kretschmann .

In the federal election 2013 he ran in the constituency of Nürtingen and entered the German Bundestag via the state list , as well as in the 2017 federal election . At the 2017 party conference in Berlin, he got into a dispute with Kretschmann about the goal of only allowing emission-free cars from 2030. A video of the argument was posted on the Internet.

He is a member of the Committee for Transport and Digital Infrastructure and is the rail policy spokesman for his group. Gastel is also represented as a deputy member of the Committee on Tourism and the Committee on Food and Agriculture.

Stuttgart – Ulm rail project

As part of the protests against the Stuttgart – Ulm rail project , he co-founded the “Yes to Ausstieg aus Stuttgart 21” alliance in Filderstadt and is one of the most prominent critics, especially the reduction from 16 tracks in the terminus to eight tracks in the new underground station. Gastel speaks out against the railway for a longer preservation of the inner-city inclined section of the Gäubahn until its continuous connection to the airport train station is ensured.

In addition to expanding the Gäubahn, he also advocates the closure of the S-Bahn between Böblingen and Kirchheim .
