Matthias Gruhl

Matthias Gruhl (born September 21, 1953 in Rathenow ) is a German doctor and political official . Since November 1, 2018, he has been the State Councilor of the Hamburg Authority for Health and Consumer Protection .

Life

education and profession

After graduating from high school , Gruhl began studying medicine at RWTH Aachen University in 1972 and studying sociology and political science there in 1975 . In 1979 he received his license to practice medicine and received his doctorate in medicine . As a result, he worked as an assistant doctor in Bardenberg until 1982 and completed a longer stay abroad in Papua New Guinea . From 1982 to 1984 he was an assistant doctor in Minden and then completed his community service as an assistant doctor in 1985 and 1986 and was recognized as a general practitioner .

Acting as a political official

1986 to 1987 he acted as " Head of Department for Health Care, Public Health and Disease Hygiene" in the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs . During this time Gruhl also passed the state medical examination, with which he was recognized as a doctor for public health. After he was head of the Bremen Port Health Office from 1987 and at the same time Head of the Disease and Environmental Hygiene Division at the Bremen Senator for Health, Gruhl became department head for health care and area coordinator at the Senator for Women, Health, Youth, Social Affairs and Environmental Protection of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. He took on these functions for many years in various departments of the authority. In 2012 he moved to the Authority for Health and Consumer Protection of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, where he became Head of Health.

Gruhl became State Councilor of the Hamburg Authority for Health and Consumer Protection in November 2018.

At the end of the 2010s he was on the review board of the project Reorganization of the hospital landscape: less is more, which recommends the closure of hospital locations.

Private

Gruhl has lived in Bremen since 1987, is married and has two children.
