Matthias Thürauf (born October 11, 1973 in Schwabach ) is a German lawyer and former local politician ( CSU ). From 2008 to 2020 he was Lord Mayor of Schwabach.

Life

In 1992 he joined the Junge Union (JU) and the CSU. After graduating from Adam-Kraft-Gymnasium in 1993 , he studied law at the University of Bayreuth and the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg from 1994 to 1999 . From 1994 to 1996 he was a freelancer in the office of member of parliament Karl Freller .

From 1999 to 2001 he completed a legal clerkship in the Nuremberg Higher Regional Court and in the central legal department of Siemens AG . From 2001 to 2003 he was a trial judge at the Nuremberg District Court . From 2003 to 2005 he was a public prosecutor at the Nuremberg-Fürth public prosecutor's office. From March to September 2005 he was an advisor to the CDU / CSU parliamentary group for the visa investigation committee . From September 2005 to April 30, 2008 he was a judge at the Hersbruck District Court . In the 2008 municipal elections , he was elected Lord Mayor of Schwabach in the runoff election. He has held this office since May 1, 2008. When he was elected, he was the youngest mayor of an independent city in Bavaria. In the local elections on March 16, 2014, he was re-elected with 65.3% of the votes cast (+16.5). On April 10, 2019, he announced that he would no longer run in the 2020 election. His successor in the office of Mayor of Schwabach has been Peter Reiss since May 2020.
