Matthias Valkiers (born April 8, 1990 in Aalst ) is a Belgian volleyball player .

Career

Valkiers started his career at Lindemans Aalst . With the Belgian national junior team, he took part in the Junior World Championships in Mexico in 2007 and in Pune in 2009, as well as in the 2008 European Championships in Brno . In 2011, the setter switched to Noliko Maaseik . In the very first season he won the double of the cup and championship with the club. In 2013 he won the European league with the senior national team . In 2014 he played with Belgium - as well as in the volleyball world league for the following three years . He also took part in the World Cup in Poland . In the 2014/15 season Valkiers played for the Turkish club Palandöken Belediyesi Voleybol in Erzurum . With Belgium he reached the playoff round at the 2015 European Championships and was eliminated by Germany. He then moved to Prefaxis Menen . After a season he went to Romania to Volei Municipal Zalau . At the 2017 European Championships in Poland , he finished fourth with Belgium. Then he played at PAOK Thessaloniki . With the club he won the Greek Cup and was runner-up. At the 2018 World Cup , he finished seventh with Belgium. In the 2018/19 season he was active in the French league at Tourcoing Lille Métropole volleyball . He then moved to the German Bundesliga club United Volleys Frankfurt .
