Matthias von Kummer

Matthias Ludwig Bogislav von Kummer (born December 23, 1947 in Bremen ; † October 14, 2017 in Hamburg ) was a German diplomat .

Life

After graduating from high school , von Kummer studied law between 1968 and 1974 and passed the first state examination in law in 1975 . Upon completion of the legal traineeship he completed the second state examination in 1977 and was then from 1977 to 1980 as a lawyer and general counsel employed by a bandage.

In 1980 he joined the Foreign Service and after completing his career examination for the higher civil service from 1982 to 1984 worked in the Foreign Office in Bonn at the Embassy in Venezuela and then between 1986 and 1989 at the Embassy in Brazil. After a subsequent assignment at the embassy in Great Britain , von Kummer was head of advanced training at the Foreign Service training center between 1991 and 1996 .

He then became Head of Economic Services at the Embassy in Greece in 1996 and was then Permanent Representative of the Consul General in São Paulo between 1998 and 2001, before he was Head of Division in the Legal Department of the Foreign Office in Berlin from 2001 to 2006 . After a subsequent activity as Consul General in Istanbul from 2006 to 2009 , he was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Republic of Slovenia until 2010 , while Brita Wagener was his successor as Consul General in Istanbul.

In August 2010 Matthias von Kummer became Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in São Paulo , while Werner Burkart followed him as Ambassador to Slovenia . In 2013 he retired and later took on the role of program director of the Latin America and Caribbean course of the international diplomatic training several times. Matthias von Kummer died on October 14, 2017 at the age of 69.
