Maurizio Calvesi (art historian)
Maurizio Calvesi (born September 18, 1927 in Rome ; † July 24, 2020 ibid) was an Italian art historian and art critic , who last taught at the La Sapienza University in Rome.
He curated several art exhibitions and wrote numerous essays and articles on the history of Renaissance , Baroque and 20th century art .
In 1990 he was awarded the Premio Viareggio for his monographic treatise Le realtà del Caravaggio ( The Reality of Caravaggio ). In 2008 he was awarded the Balzan Prize for the field of figurative painting .
