Maurizio Pimponi (born September 1, 1970 in Grosseto ) is a former Italian beach volleyball player .

Career

Pimponi played his first international tournaments in 1996 on the world series with Giorgio Pallotta . In 1998 he formed a new duo with Andrea Raffaelli and finished ninth at the Lignano Open. The Italians achieved the same result at the 1999 World Cup . At the subsequent European Championship in Palma they finished seventh. A year later they had to admit defeat at the European Championships in Getxo, initially just narrowly to the Latvians Grīnbergs / Krūmiņš , before they were eliminated after a clear defeat against the Swiss Kobel / Heuscher . The Olympic tournament in Sydney ended early for them when they lost to the Argentines Martínez / Conde and the Austrians Stamm / Berger .

In the third round of the 2001 European Championship , Pimponi / Raffaelli had to admit defeat to the Swiss Laciga brothers; on the losing side they were eliminated against the Germans Dieckmann / Slacanin . In 2002 in Basel the Swiss Heuscher / Kobel and the Norwegians Horrem / Maaseide were again too strong for the fifth of the Berlin Open. In their last year together, the Italians could not achieve any top placements in 2003.
