Live, create and die

Max Bresele dealt in his art with the threat to the body and soul of humans and with the various attempts to deal with them. In addition to conventional means such as paint, canvas, paper, wood, Max Bresele used all kinds of scrap and rubbish that human life produces as material for his works of art.

Max Bresele drove his moped with a trailer, which he had stuffed full of his works of art, across Germany to exhibitions and art fairs. In the 1980s he took part in the resistance against the Wackersdorf reprocessing plant , where he showed short films he had made himself in the Taxöldner Forest with an emergency power generator and a film projector. A film prize is named after Max Bresele and is awarded annually at the Regensburg Short Film Week for committed short films with a political impact.

Max Bresele lived the last years of his life partly in a parked wooden caravan, partly in a chicken coop in Uckersdorf. His works filled a large barn in Uckersdorf , an old factory hall in Altendorf and the large garden plot around his home. In 1998 he died of colon cancer in the Oberviechtach hospital.

Max Bresele's grave is in the Schwarzhofen cemetery . During the first few years after his death, it was adorned with an artistically designed tombstone. This has now (2014) disappeared and only a small Bresele object adorns the grave site between dandelions and shepherds' purse.

In 2012 the rental period of Max Bresele's grave site expired and it would have cost € 15 to extend it. The community of Schwarzhofen was not willing to spend this money and people who would have been willing to do so were not informed. So the grave was abandoned and the artistically valuable tombstone was stored by a stonemason nearby.

The Kunstverein Weiden takes care of Max Bresele's extensive estate . In July 2017, a Max-Bresele-Museum was opened in the rooms of the Kunstverein Weiden at Ledererstraße 6, 92637 Weiden.
