Max Gustav Lange

Max Gustav Lange (born September 10, 1899 , † 1963 in Berlin ) was a German educator and sociologist .

Born as the son of a baker in Neumark , Lange completed a teaching seminar (1st exam in 1920 in Pölitz) and studied in Berlin from 1921 to 1927 (history, education, economics, sociology, philosophy). Politically, he was linked to the USPD and SPD . Before 1933 a. a. Taught at the Rütlischule school in Berlin-Neukölln under Adolf Jensen and belonged to a reformer group with Robert Alt and Paul Heimann . After 1933 he continued to work as a teacher and joined the NSDAP in 1940 . From 1940 to 1943 he did military service.

After 1945 he became a member of the KPD and initially worked in the school administration. He did his doctorate in Jena under Peter Petersen with a thesis on Young Hegelianism and the beginnings of Marxism and became professor of sociology and education in Halle (Saale) and Potsdam . From 1946 to 1950 he was editor-in-chief of the East Berlin magazine Pädagogik . Here he published numerous texts in which he sought a sociological justification of pedagogy and advocated a Marxist orientation in educational science.

In 1950 he suddenly gave up his activity in the GDR and tried to make a name for himself as an anti-communist in West Berlin . In West Berlin he was appointed lecturer at the Otto Suhr Institute for Politics and then professor at the PH Berlin . His work " Political Sociology " took up a new approach from the USA in 1961 and was published several times.
