Max Leemann (born June 12, 1932 in Meilen ; † April 10, 2002 in Männedorf on Lake Zurich ) was a Swiss composer , conductor , trumpeter and music publisher . He also composed under the pseudonym Lex Abel.

Life

Max Leemann grew up with his two brothers in a rural area in Meilen. As a child he started playing the recorder in the local music association and he also learned to play the accordion as a solid foundation . Against his father's wishes, he studied at the Conservatory in Zurich from 1948 to 1951 and at the Conservatoire national in Paris .

From 1951 to 1955 he was a trumpeter at the Städtebund-Theater Biel - Solothurn and with the Monte Ceneri Radio Orchestra in Lugano . From 1955 he worked full-time as a wind orchestra conductor and composer. As the successor to Heinrich Steinbeck , he became conductor of the town music in Arbon on Lake Constance in 1959 , which he directed until 1965. Other wind orchestras were the Unterärgeri field music , the "Eintracht" town music in Zurich, the Dällikon music association (near Regensdorf ) and the Zollikon music association . Later he also conducted the canton police music in Zurich and from 1968 the town music in Rapperswil SG , with which he felt particularly connected.

In 1961 he settled in his home town of Meilen with his wife and three daughters , where he founded Belgano Musikverlag for wind orchestra works, where he mainly published his own compositions alongside other authors. In April 2002 Max Leemann died after an operation in the Männedorf Hospital.

His oeuvre includes almost 100 works.
