Max Osterloh
Max Osterloh (born November 22, 1851 in Braunschweig ; † August 25, 1927 there ) was a German architect and Braunschweig city planner.
Life
Max Osterloh studied and joined the city of Braunschweig in 1874 after completing his master builder examination. In 1879 he was employed by the municipal building authorities as a master builder and deputy of the winter city council . After being promoted to city architect in 1883 and building officer in 1907, Osterloh finally succeeded Winter in 1915. He retired in 1924 and died in 1927.
Osterloh designed several municipal buildings in his hometown in the historicizing style, such as the schools in Sophienstrasse (1891), Bürgerstrasse (1900), Pestalozzistraße (1901), the Gaußschule (1908) and the secondary school on what was then Augustplatz (1914). He created the new buildings for the City Museum (1906), the City Archives and the City Library (1910). Osterloh was entrusted with the restoration of some medieval churches in Braunschweig, for example at the Martinikirche from 1897 to 1899 . Some of the commercial buildings he designed in downtown Braunschweig have been preserved.
The Max-Osterloh-Platz in Braunschweig is named after him.
