Max Weber (artist)
Max Weber (born April 18, 1881 in Białystok , † October 4, 1961 in Great Neck , NY ) was a Polish - American painter and sculptor .
He and his strictly Jewish parents emigrated to Brooklyn NY in the United States in 1891 . There he attended the Pratt Institute from 1898 to 1900 , where he was taught art and design. In 1905 he studied in Paris at the Académie Julian together with Jean-Paul Laurens , then at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and the Académie Colarossi . He made the acquaintance of Henri Rousseau , joined the circle of Henri Matisse and met Pablo Picasso in 1907 . In 1909 he returned to the USA. From 1912 his painting style turned to cubism. In 1913 Weber took part in the Armory Show in New York. In 1955 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters .
