Max auf Reisen is the third Schwank in the Maxe Baumann series from 1978 . It was broadcast on German television for the first time on December 31, 1978 .

action

It's Christmas time. Maxe is in the process of decorating the Christmas tree in his son's apartment, who is already deeply pityed, when Erna Mischke arrives. For Maxe, she has the task of planning and organizing this year's New Year's Eve celebration in the “Schwarzer Hirsch” company holiday home in Auenthal, Thuringia, since the actual planner of the company, in which Maxe also worked before retiring, is sick with the flu. Maxe Baumann cancels but initially because he wants to spend Christmas with his family.

His grandson Jens later informs him that his new girlfriend Constanze is pregnant and that he will be great-grandfather. But there is a catch: Jens Baumann is very sad because Constanze does not want the child, the couple is at odds. Maxe is happy about the great-grandchild and tries to rebuild his grandson.

During the conversations it turns out that the Christmas tree can no longer be saved. Maxe secretly sends his son outside to buy a new one, because Waltraut is not supposed to notice that he is moving away from baking speculoos.

When Horst arrives drunk and the Spekulatius are burned, Waltraut is completely angry, Maxe and Hertha flee to the company holiday home and after being welcomed by the home manager Benno Grieshübel he begins to plan the New Year's Eve program. However, since the company is on holiday there at the moment, the building is not heated except for the manager's room.

Erna and Ferdinand Mischke are very surprised by Max's arrival, Ferdinand leaves immediately out of frustration, also because a blank gun hangs in his room, which went off at reception and he then sees the holiday home as dangerous and blames the home manager Benno Grießhübel for it.

Maxe also calls Constanze's mother, Marlene, over by telegram to talk about the grandchildren's affair, because she is partly responsible for the fact that Constanze does not want the child. Using various fairy tales and stories as an example, he tries to convince Marlene of the grandchild and the future of both of them. Meanwhile, Erna, who was appointed dispatcher by Maxe, tries in vain to hire celebrities for the New Year's Eve party.

Later Horst and Waltraut join them again, so that they and Erna now try to practice a dance from the television ballet themselves in order to at least have something for the program.

Constanze runs away after talking to Waltraut, she also wanted to talk her out of the child. After you find the child outside, everyone is for the grandchild, the couple is finally happy.

Meanwhile, Erna tries to reach her husband by phone, but women answer, and Erna thinks she is being cheated on. In the end, however, it turns out that these were the women from the television ballet engaged by Ferdinand , who are supposed to take over the dance rehearsed by Erna, Horst and Waltraut.

At the end everyone celebrates the television ballet and looks forward to New Year's Eve and the (great) grandchild.

curiosity

"The one with his lamp, he looks like someone from television." Meant is Willi Schwabe , who has become a legend through the " junk room " , for whom the role of Benno Grieshübel was obviously written, also with regard to the effeminate attitude. Why Gerry Wolff ultimately took on the role is an open question.
