occupation

Maxe Baumann is a TV comedy series of the television of the GDR from the years 1976 to 1987, the focus of which is the pensioner Maxe Baumann.

content

The focus of the seven comedies and one special is the sprightly pensioner Maxe Baumann (played by the native Berliner Gerd E. Schäfer ). In his gripping, sometimes over-exploring manner, he often rushes over the target or overwhelms his surroundings. He is supported by his faithful wife Hertha ( Traute Sense , in the special Helga Göring ). Always there is the somewhat stiff son Horst ( Heinz Behrens ), who is under the thumb of his researched and self-confident wife Waltraut ( Margot Ebert ). Maxes friend and former colleague Erna Mischke ( Helga Hahnemann ) and her husband Ferdinand Holz ( Rolf Herricht ) are usually also part of the party. The supporting roles of Hahnemann and Herricht ceased to exist after the early death of Rolf Herricht in 1981, they were replaced by other supporting characters, in particular Marlene Kleinschmidt ( Ingeborg Krabbe , from part three) and Hugo Krüger ( Herbert Köfer , parts four to six).

After Maxe Baumann has been retired, he no longer has enough to do and now has to look for something to do, as doing nothing is a punishment for this gripping person. It doesn't matter whether he takes on the problems of the young Mario Krüger ( Peter Fabers ) or helps his grandson Jens Baumann ( Michael Pan ) and girlfriend Monika ( Birgit Edenharter ) out of a jam. In the end, Maxe is always the man of the day, who causes all sorts of confusion with his lovable activism and finally resolves it again. Since there was a shortage of labor in the GDR, it was welcomed when pensioners continued to work. From the third part on, Maxe Baumann also resumes his work in the old company. He continues the work until the last episode, in which he celebrates his 70th birthday.

background

After several weeks of rehearsal in Berlin, the comedies were recorded in front of an audience in the cultural center of the Zinnowitz seaside resort and shown on GDR television on New Year's Eve . This tradition was continued from 1983 onwards by the comedy series “ Three lovely sisters ” and “ Ferienheim Bergkristall ”. After parts of the GDR had no electricity on New Year's Eve as part of the snow catastrophe in northern Germany in 1978 , many viewers asked for a repetition of the episode Max while Traveling . This repetition finally took place in February 1979 and achieved one of the highest ratings in the history of GDR television with an audience rate of around 72%.

Gerd E. Schäfer (* 1923) and Traute Sense (* 1920) were only a little older than the actors of their film children, Margot Ebert (* 1926) and Heinz Behrens (* 1932).
