Maxim Sokolov ( Russian Максим Анатольевич Соколов * 27. May 1972 in Leningrad , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player and current coach, who throughout his career including for the SKA Saint Petersburg , the Avangard Omsk , Metallurg Novokuznetsk and Severstal Tscherepowez has played in the Superliga and Continental Hockey League . At the beginning of the 2000s he was a member of the Russian national team and took part in a total of six world championships and the 2006 Olympic ice hockey tournament.
Since 2014 he has been a member of the coaching staff of his home club SKA Saint Petersburg .
Career
Maxim Sokolow began his career in 1992 with SKA Saint Petersburg in the Russian first division . After further positions in the first Russian league with Severstal Tscherepowez and HK Avangard Omsk , he returned to Saint Petersburg in 2005. At Metallurg Novokuznetsk , Sokolow was under contract from 2007 before returning to his hometown club in 2009. In addition to appearances in the Continental Hockey League for the SKA, Sokolow also played for the SKA's farm team, the HK WMF Saint Petersburg , in the Wysschaja Hockey League . In November 2010, Sokolow temporarily moved to HK Traktor Chelyabinsk before returning to his home club, SKA Saint Petersburg, in December of the same year.
From May 2012 Sokolow was under contract with Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk before ending his career in May 2013.
International
With the Russian national team , Sokolow took part in six world championships and the 2006 Olympic ice hockey tournament. He won the silver medal at the 2002 World Cup and the bronze medal in 2005 . He also took part in the 2004 World Cup of Hockey .
As a trainer
In the 2013/14 season he worked as a goalkeeper coach at Atlant Moskovskaya Oblast before moving to the same position at SKA Saint Petersburg the following season. In the 2015/16 season he was promoted to assistant coach.
In the 2016/17 season he was assistant coach at SKA-1946 Saint Petersburg, the SKA's junior team.
