Maximilian Ernst of Austria
Maximilian Ernst of Austria (born November 17, 1583 in Graz , † February 18, 1616 in Graz) from the house of the Habsburgs was an Archduke of Austria .
Life
Maximilian Ernst was a son of Archduke Karl II of Habsburg Inner Austria (1540–1590) from his marriage to Maria Anna (1551–1608), daughter of the Bavarian Duke Albrecht V. He was a brother of the future Roman-German Emperor Ferdinand II . and the Spanish Queen Margaret . Accompanied by his mother, he led his sister Anna to Poland in 1592 for her wedding.
Together with his brother Ferdinand, the regent in Inner Austria , and his cousins Maximilian , regent in Lower Austria and Matthias , regent in Upper Austria (Tyrol and the Vorlande) , he declared his cousin, Emperor Rudolf II, in a document dated April 25, 1606 in Vienna . , unable to govern due to a mental illness , and Matthias head of the House of Austria.
His relative Maximilian, the German master , accepted the prince into the Teutonic Order in 1615 . where in 1616 he became the Landkomtur of the Ballei Austria. As coadjutor of the order, already designated as the successor in the office of Grand Master , Maximilian Ernst died at the age of 33. He was buried in the Habsburg mausoleum of the Seckau basilica .
