Maximilian Haider
Maximilian Haider (born January 23, 1950 in Freistadt Austria ) is an Austrian physicist.
Career
Haider studied physics at the University of Kiel and the TH Darmstadt , where he received his doctorate in 1987 with a thesis on the design, construction and testing of a corrected electron energy loss spectrometer with large dispersion and a large acceptance angle . In 1989 he became group leader at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), where he had already carried out the experiments for his dissertation.
Haider is honorary professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
plant
In 2011 he received the Israeli Wolf Prize in Physics with Harald Rose (Darmstadt) and Knut Urban (Jülich) for their development of processes to improve image errors in electron microscopes , among other things with the help of magnetic multipole lenses (aberration corrected transmission electron microscopy). This increased the resolution to about 50 picometers . The three started working together in 1992. Haider built the first prototype and is the founder (1996, with Joachim Zach) and head of the company CEOS (Corrected Electron Optical Systems), which produces its new developments.
Honors and memberships
In addition to the Wolf Prize, Haider, Rose and Urban received the Karl Heinz Beckurts Prize in 2006 and the Honda Prize in 2008 and Haider and Zach (i.e. the CEOS company) received the Dr. Rudolf Eberle Prize (innovation prize in 2005) of Baden-Württemberg).
In 2013 he received the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award . In 2015 he was awarded both an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Microscopical Society and the NIMS Award 2015. In 2020 Haider received the Kavli Prize for Nanosciences.
