Maxwell (Max) Leonard Fuller (born January 28, 1945 in Sydney , † August 27, 2013 there ) was an Australian chess player .
Life
Max Fuller attended Canterbury Boys' High School (CBHS) in Sydney. In the 1970s he lived in London for a few years . He was the first professional chess in Australia. He was active in chess until April 2006. Fuller held the title of FIDE Master .
successes
Individual tournaments
In 1963 he won the Australian U18 championship. In 1972 he shared the win of the Australian individual championship with Trevor Hay in Melbourne , the play-off decision was 5: 5. At the 1972 zone tournament in Hong Kong , which Eugenio Torre won, he was tied for second place, but was placed fourth after drawing lots, so that Singaporean Tan Lian Ann received the title of International Master (IM) and was able to drive to the Petrópolis 1973 interzonal tournament , which was won by Henrique da Costa Mecking . Fuller won the Australian Open in 1973 and 1975, the Doeberl Cup in 1974, 1975 and 1983. National team
He took part in nine chess Olympiads for the Australian team between 1964 and 1990 with a positive overall result of 59 points from 106 games (+40 = 38 −28). His victories at Chess Olympiads included games against the titleholders IM Lazaros Vizantiadis ( 1968 ), IM Peter Biyiasas and IM Tüdewiin Üitümen ( 1974 ), IM Juan Manuel Bellón López ( 1976 ) and IM Leif Øgaard ( 1978 ). In 1986 and 1990 he was the team captain of the Australian national team at the Olympics. At the Asian team championship in 1974 he played on the top board for Australia and received an individual gold medal in second place for the team for his result of six points from seven games.
