Maya Homburger (born December 17, 1953 in Zurich ) is a Swiss violinist ( baroque violin ) and music producer who has emerged in both baroque and contemporary music .

Live and act

Homburger studied at the Bern Conservatory , where she graduated with a soloist diploma from Eva Zurbrügg. She continued her education with Ivan Galamian in the United States and Eduard Melkus in Vienna; During this time she worked as a member of the Camerata Bern , but also specialized more and more in the duo repertoire for baroque violin and harpsichord . Together with harpsichordist Andreas Erismann, she presented herself at festivals in Germany, Austria, Italy and North America. She performed Johann Sebastian Bach's six sonatas for obbligato harpsichord and violin and the Rosary Sonatas by Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber . In 1986 Homburger moved to England, where she took part in numerous ensembles with historical performance practice , in addition to the Academy of Ancient Music, in particular the English Concert around Trevor Pinnock and the English Baroque Soloists . From 1992 she concentrated more and more on chamber music and the solo repertoire. In 1993 she recorded Georg Philipp Telemann's 12 Fantasias for violin for her own CD label Maya Recordings . In 1995 she recorded Bach's six sonatas for harpsichord and violin with the harpsichordist Malcolm Proud. In 1994 the English composer Buxton Orr wrote a duo for baroque violin and double bass for her and her husband, bassist Barry Guy ; Giles Swayne and Roger Marsh wrote other works for this line-up . 1995 began a series of joint appearances with Guy, which combine new compositions and improvisations with solo sonatas and fantasies by Bach, Telemann and Biber; sometimes other musicians such as Pierre Favre also took part in the concerts. In 2000 Homburg was concertmaster and soloist in John Eliot Gardiner's Bach cantatas project and performed all over Europe. Guy wrote several solo works for her. In addition to joint appearances with Guy and solo concerts, she is currently concentrating on the management of her record label and numerous formations of her husband, such as the London Jazz Composers Orchestra .

Homburger plays on an Italian violin by Antonio dalla Costa ( Treviso 1740), which is in its original Baroque condition. Between 1996 and 2004 she lived with Guy in Ireland, since 2006 in Switzerland.
