The Meadow River is a 85-kilometer left tributary of the Gauley River in Greenbrier County , Nicholas County and Fayette Counties in the US state of West Virginia .

The Meadow River is created by the confluence of the Eagle Branch and Callahan Branch at Grassy Meadows . It initially flows mainly in a north-easterly direction to the confluence of the Methodist Branch near Crawley .
From here it runs mainly in a north-westerly direction and only a little later, near Rupert , it takes in Little Clear Creek and Big Clear Creek , which are among the most important tributaries, in quick succession . After taking in dozens of other small streams and passing Charmco , Rainelle and Nallen , the Meadow River finally flows into the Gauley River, which emerges from the Summersville Reservoir , in the Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park .
The river drains an area of 950 km² and largely flows through the Meadow River Wildlife Management Area and the last eight kilometers of the river through the Gauley River National Recreation Area .
