The Medal For the Retrieval of Crimea ( Russian медаль “За возвращение Крыма” ) is an official award of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation . It was introduced on March 21, 2014 by Order No. 160 of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation.

The medal was introduced after the President of the Russian Federation , Vladimir Putin , signed the order for the annexation of the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol to Russia on the basis of the results of the internationally unrecognized referendum .

The first medals were awarded on March 24, 2014.
