Medical Detectives - Secrets of Forensic Medicine (Original Title: Medical Detectives , later Forensic Files ) is an American crime thriller - documentary that was first broadcast from 1996 to 2011. The series ran on TLC for the first four seasons, then switched to truTV (formerly Court TV ) for the next ten seasons . Paul Dowling is executive producer and creator of the documentary series produced by Medstar Television.

A total of 404 episodes were produced in the original language, of which only around 250 were dubbed in German . The repetitions have been given a new intro and in some cases updated information about the perpetrators or victims. The narrator who hosted the Forensic Files broadcast was Peter Thomas. In Germany, Medical Detectives is presented by Hubertus Bengsch , better known as the dubbing voice of Richard Gere or William Petersen alias Gil Grissom from CSI: Vegas .

Medical Detectives is broadcast in Germany by VOX (until October 2006; in the night program since October 2008; 145 episodes), on the pay-TV channel RTL Crime (56 new episodes from May 2014) and on the free-TV channel Nitro (48 new episodes from January 2015). There are also repetitions on the channels mentioned.

On July 1, 2020, Mark Benecke announced on Facebook that eight new episodes had been shot.

In the night program on VOX, the show regularly gets very high ratings, sometimes up to 20%, which is usually rather untypical for the station.

Medical Detectives mainly deals with the forensic and forensic investigation of crimes with the help of scientific and technical methods of forensic psychology , ballistics , forensic entomology , dactyloscopy , forensic odontology , forensic serology , DNA typing , material and fiber analysis , forensic toxicology , forensic handwriting analysis , IT forensics , physics , biology and chemistry .
