Megan McCafferty

Megan Fitzmorris McCafferty (born February 3, 1973 ) is an American writer for youth literature , best known for her five novels about the teenager Jessica Darling.

Life

After attending school, Megan McCafferty first completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Richmond and then studied English at Columbia University , from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA English). She then worked as a journalist .

She made her literary debut in 2001 with the youth book Sloppy Firsts , in which she describes the 16-year-old high school student Jessica Darling from Tennessee , who is devastated after the departure of her best friend and in dealing with her classmates, but also with becomes an outsider due to her compulsive parents and lack of love life. In the second volume, Second Helpings (2003), overcautious , anxious Jessica faces a social and emotional ordeal during her senior year at Pineville High School. In addition to her relationships with her classmates, her first love for the mysterious Marcus Flutie, her parents' dissatisfaction with their choice of college and the pregnancy of her sister Bethany also play a role in her social and family environment. In the three follow-up novels Charmed thirds (2006), Forth Comings (2007) and Perfect fifths (2009), Jessica Darling's growing up, her everyday life as a young student in New York , dealing with a marriage proposal and first love are described.

In 2006, there were plagiarism allegations against the Indian author Kaavya Viswanathan after it was discovered that she had taken over parts of McCafferty's novel Sloppy Firsts in her first novel How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild and Got a Life .

Megan McCafferty, who had supported Barack Obama , has written short stories as well as other novels in addition to the five Jessica Darling novels . The Jessica Darling material from the 2013 book Jessica Darling's It List # 1: The (Notso) Guaranteed Guide to Popularity, Prettiness & Perfection is currently being adapted under the title Jessica Darling's It List, based on a script by Julie Sherman Wolfe and directed by Ali Scher with Chloe East as Jessica Darling and Eric Lutes and Jane Sibbett in the role of their parents.
