Mehmet Aktan (born April 6, 1946 in Konya ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. He played for MKE Ankaragücü for much of his career and was involved in some of the club's greatest successes during this time. During his playing days he was known by the nickname Sarı Mehmet (dt. Blond Mehmet or Mehmet, the blond ) because of his blond hair . Since Mehmet Uğursal was another Mehmet in the Ankaragücü squad in the summer of 1969 and he was older, Altanv was referred to as Küçük Mehmet (German: Little Mehmet ) and Uğursal as Büyük Mehmet (German: The great Mehmet ). After his football career, he hit the headlines after he found himself in a precarious situation and had to earn his living as an unskilled worker on construction sites.

In June 1965, the four clubs Konya Meramspor , Konya Çimentospor , Konya Selçukspor and Konya Gençlerbirliği merged to form the newly founded Konyaspor with black and white club colors and took part in the 1963 introduced in the second Turkish league . The notables of the city of Konya followed the request of the Turkish Football Association to found a competitive larger club by merging local clubs and to participate in the Türkiye 2nd Futbol Ligi, the second highest Turkish league, by fulfilling additional requirements. With this club, the city took part with the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi 1965/66 in this league. Aktan, whose career beginnings are undocumented, was part of the founding squad of Konyaspor. For this club he played the next four seasons almost continuously as a regular player.

When Konyaspor missed relegation in the 2nd Lig in the summer of 1969 and had to relegate to the Türkiye 3rd Futbol Ligi , Aktan moved to the first division club MKE Ankaragücü . Even with this club he managed to assert himself as a regular player. He was part of the club's squad that reached one of the most successful seasons in the club's history from 1971 to 1973. So he ended the 1971/72 season with his club in fifth place and thus repeated the second-best and 16-year-old first division placement in the club's history. This season, the final of the Turkish Cup was reached and won for the first time in the club's history . The next season, the 1972/73 season , he finished with his team in fourth place and thus repeated the best first division placement. In the cup, the final was reached again, but the title defense against Galatasaray Istanbul was missed. Aktan was one of the most important performers of his team during these seasons. He also rose to the national team in 1973 and was used in all international matches of the Turkish national team that year . He played almost continuously until December 1973 and fell out of 1974 for both Ankaragücü and the national team.

After he had not played a game until the summer of 1975, he took part in the pre-season preparatory camp of Galatasaray Istanbul for the upcoming season in the summer of 1975. He told the press that he had meanwhile ended his career for health reasons and now wanted to play for Galatasaray after having overcome health problems. In addition, he mentioned that he was still under contract with Ankaragücü and had asked for his sale for a transfer fee of 150,000 Turkish Lira . So he was signed by Galatasaray before the start of the season. At a new club he was only used in one competitive match, the cup match on December 24, 1975 against Eskişehir Demirspor , and otherwise stood out because his name was on a list of player transfers in which there was suspicion of tax evasion.

After he had found no consideration in the squad planning at Galatasaray in the 1976/77 season, he left this club and again decided to end his career. In the spring of 1977 he tried Ankaragücü to get an offer for a farewell game and was unsuccessful with this project. With this club he was then taken back under contract for the 1977/78 season. He played for the capital city at least until the summer of 1980.

According to his own statements and without specifying a time, he still played for the two clubs Gençlerbirliği Ankara and Hacettepe GK .

National team

Aktan's national team career began in 1973 with a commitment for the Turkish national team . Here he was nominated for the first time for the squad of the Turkish national team in January as part of a qualifying game of the 1974 World Cup against the Italian national team by coach Coşkun Özarı and made his international debut in this game. He completed all other international matches for the Turkish national team that year.

In total, he completed seven full international matches.

Coaching career

In the 2010s he coached the amateur clubs Yeniceoba Gençliği Belediyespor and Karacadağ Belediyespor for short periods.
