Prussian all-mile obelisk near Wimmelburg

The milestone at the Wimmelburger Hölzchen is a small monument in the community of Mansfelder Grund-Helbra in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .

The all-mile obelisk west of Wimmelburg on Landesstraße 151 (formerly Bundesstraße 80 ) has a special history, as it has only been back here since 2003. The original piece had to be recovered in 1983 and is in the Kronenfriedhof in the neighboring Lutherstadt Eisleben , where it is supposed to remain due to static problems. Only one of the two benches and the base stone at the original location have been preserved from the former milestone. Everything else is a concrete replica. In the 1990s, both benches were recovered and put back on the street, but one of the two was later stolen.

In addition to the usual Prussian eagle plate, the information Berlin 27 miles can be found , as it belongs to the Prussian Chaussee Berlin - Kassel , which was built in this section from Langenbogen to Nordhausen in the years 1824 to 1826, Eisleben 1/2 mile , after the nearby one Town east of Wimmelburg and Sangerhausen 2 1/8 mile , after the next town west of Wimmelburg . A Prussian mile corresponds to 7.532 kilometers, so we are more than 203 kilometers from Dönhoffplatz in Berlin, where this road originates from.

The original obelisk was once the third milestone on the corridor of Wimmelburg from east to west, with its eastern neighbor, the quarter milestone at the village width, as well as its western neighbor, the quarter milestone at the birch sheep farm . Only the half-milestone near the Eisleben city limits has disappeared, probably since 1905. In 1947 it was knocked over and was therefore even more exposed to the weather. Therefore salvage was the only way to save it from total destruction. A copy was therefore made here in 2003.

The replica is also under monument protection and is entered in the monument register with the number 094 08227.
