Meli'sa Morgan (* 6. December 1964 as Joyce Melissa Morgan in Queens , New York ) is an American R & B singer.

biography

Morgan sang from childhood and became a member of a gospel group when he was eight. In high school, she sang in a few R&B bands, which usually played cover versions of popular hits. Her career as a professional singer began in 1982: Together with Alyson Williams and Erick McClinton, she founded the group High Fashion and signed a contract with Capitol . The trio only had one top 40 hit in the American R&B charts ( Feelin 'Lucky Lately ). Morgan dropped out after the first album, but continued to work as a background singer for artists such as Melba Moore , Chaka Khan and Whitney Houston .

From the mid-1980s, Morgan was again under contract with Capitol, the singer celebrated some big hits in the R&B charts. Her only number one, Do Me Baby , a cover version from the Prince album Controversy , also made it into the top 50 hit on the pop charts. Morgan's other top 10 hits were Do You Still Love Me? (1986), If You Can Do It: I Can Too and Love Changes (1987, with Kashif ) and Still in Love With You (1992).

In addition to her hit with Kashif, her duets with James "JT" Taylor and Freddie Jackson were also successful. She also sang the song Deeper Love for the soundtrack for In Search of the Golden Child , written by Diane Warren, and toured with Freddie Jackson, Billy Ocean and LeVert .

In early 2015, Morgan was the subject of the documentary series Unsung on the Afro-American TV channel TV One. This series is dedicated to R&B stars who received less attention.
