Mellow Man Ace
Mellow Man Ace (born April 12, 1967 in Pinar del Río , Cuba ; real name Ulpiano Sergio Reyes ) is an American-Cuban rapper .
biography
His family left Cuba when he was four years old. The family moved to California via Miami and New Jersey . There he grew up in South Gate , California . He came to rap music in 1983, inspired by The Treacherous Three .
He was a member of the group DVX (Devastating Vocal Xcellence), from which Cypress Hill (in which his brother Sen Dog is) emerged, but split up to pursue a solo career. Even so, he was a frequent feature artist at Cypress Hill. His 1987 single Mas Pingón was the first completely Spanish rap single. His 1990 single Mentirosa was the first gold single by a Latino rapper in the USA and even made it to number 14 in the Hot 100 pop charts. The album Escape From Havana also made it to the official album charts in the same year 69th place and 7th in the Latin Pop Charts.
Together with his brother Sen Dog he runs the label Latin Thug Records and performs with him as The Reyes Brothers .
