The Mengovirus (also Cardiovirus A or Encephalomyocarditis Virus 1 for short EMCV-1 ) was first isolated from a rhesus monkey in Entebbe in the Mengo district there . This showed paralysis of the lower extremities. In the mouse experiment, the animals died of acute meningoencephalitis . In humans, the infection is rare and the symptoms are much milder.
