Mensje van Keulen
Mensje Francina van Keulen (nee van der Steen) (born June 10, 1946 in The Hague ) is a Dutch writer who previously published under the pseudonyms Josien Meloen, Mien Biesheuvel, Danny Cruyff and Constant P. Cavalry.
biography
Van Keulen was previously married (he married Ton van Keulen in 1967), has a son and lives in Amsterdam .
Mensje van Keulen attended the Middelbare meisjesschool (MMS) , the Hogereburgerschool (HBS) and spent a year in London . She published her first story Een bruiloft in 1969 in Hollands Maandblad . She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts (Academie voor Beeldende kunsten) in Amsterdam. From 1970 to 1972 she was the editor of Propria Cures , a student weekly paper in which she wrote poetry and drew cartoons under the pseudonym Josien Meloen. She made her debut in 1972 with the novel Bleekers zomer . For eight years she worked with (among others) Gerrit Komrij , Theo Sontrop and Martin Ros on the editorial team of the literary magazine Maatstaf .
Many of Van Keulen's books are on the reading lists of secondary schools. She not only writes for adults, but also for children and young people. Van Keulen is friends with her colleague Maarten 't Hart . In 2001 she was a guest on the TV program Zomergasten (Summer Guests), where she was interviewed by Adriaan van Dis . In the elections to the European Parliament in 2004 and the Dutch Parliament (Tweede Kamer der Staten-Generaal) in 2006, van Keulen was on the list of candidates for the Animal Party ( Partij voor de Dieren ).
