Menzberg is a mountain village in the Napf area (Lucerne hinterland). It belongs to the political municipality Menznau in the Willisau office of the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland .
geography
The highest village on the Napf is 1016 m above sea level. M. in the southern part of the municipality of Menznau. In the north the Flüebach , in the south and east the Kleine Fontanne form the outlines of the Menzberg. Individual farms and hamlets shape the picture outside the village center. The hilltops are mostly covered with grassland, the cuttings along the streams are forested.
history
At the time the Confederation was founded , Menzberg belonged to the Wolhusen bailiff and was a popular hunting ground ( falconers ) for the Lords of Wolhusen, which the sparrowhawk stands for on the Menzberg coat of arms .
After the Battle of Sempach , Menzberg passed to Lucerne . In this context, the Zibershus and Oberlehn farms were first mentioned as former Wolhusen man fiefs . A man fiefdom directory from 1595 names other farms in Menzberg, some of which still exist today.
As a result of the founding of the parish in 1810, the actual village center with a schoolhouse (completed in 1820) and taverns developed from the extensive scattered settlement , and the population also increased significantly. In 1823 the church and parish buildings as well as some houses in the village center burned down and were rebuilt in the following years. The church was also significantly enlarged in 1910–1911.
After the establishment of the Kurhaus (today Landgasthof Hotel Menzberg) in 1834, Menzberg became a flourishing whey and climatic health resort . Menzberg has around 600 inhabitants and is primarily agricultural.
