history

At the time the Confederation was founded , Menzberg belonged to the Wolhusen bailiff and was a popular hunting ground ( falconers ) for the Lords of Wolhusen, which the sparrowhawk stands for on the Menzberg coat of arms .

After the Battle of Sempach , Menzberg passed to Lucerne . In this context, the Zibershus and Oberlehn farms were first mentioned as former Wolhusen man fiefs . A man fiefdom directory from 1595 names other farms in Menzberg, some of which still exist today.

As a result of the founding of the parish in 1810, the actual village center with a schoolhouse (completed in 1820) and taverns developed from the extensive scattered settlement , and the population also increased significantly. In 1823 the church and parish buildings as well as some houses in the village center burned down and were rebuilt in the following years. The church was also significantly enlarged in 1910–1911.

After the establishment of the Kurhaus (today Landgasthof Hotel Menzberg) in 1834, Menzberg became a flourishing whey and climatic health resort . Menzberg has around 600 inhabitants and is primarily agricultural.
