Mercury Man ( Thai มนุษย์ เหล็กไหล , Manut lek lai ) is a Thai martial arts action film from 2006 and is about a Bangkok firefighter who mutates into a superhero with the help of a Tibetan amulet . The film received a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the Thailand National Film Association Awards .

content

When firefighter Chan is called to work in the city jail, little does he know that his life will change forever. In the middle of the flames, in which prisoners and guards are running around in panic, a group of terrorists comes towards him, who set the fire to free their leader Osama Bin Ali. A fight ensues in which an old, magical amulet is rammed into Chan’s chest.

A day later, the world looks different for Chan. His strength increases more and more, his wound heals within seconds and his body seems to be burning inside. With sharpened senses, unbelievable jumping power and a kind of radiation network that penetrates from his hand, he sets out to fight the evil in the city.

At the same time, Osama Bin Ali is planning to destroy the USA and is initially starting small, with a few suicide bombings in Thailand. But the main target should be an American battleship, which is moored in the port of the city. But he didn't expect the first Thai superhero to appear.

production

The budget for the film was about 60 million baht (about 1.6 million US dollars). In contrast, the first weekend in Thailand revenues of 4.6 million baht (US $ 123,000) were disappointing.

Similar to Ong-Bak , who was also choreographed by Phanna Rithikrai and produced by Prachya Pinkaew , Mercury Man contains allusions to western films . References to the Spider-Man films exist in the dialogues, in the Spider-Man T-shirts used in the film and in graffiti such as “Spidy how RU?”.

Soundtrack

Arnon Saisangchan , who plays Osama bin Ali, is the lead singer in the Thai rock band Blackhead . He also sang the song in the credits.
