society

The SV Merkur was founded in 1906 under the name SV Merkur Oelsnitz . Until 1944, the club was always under-class within Central German football, and it did not participate in the Gauliga Sachsen or in the finals of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs . In 1943, the club briefly formed a war syndicate with TSG Raschau and entered under the name KSG Oelsnitz until 1944 .

In 1945 the association was dissolved and re-established as SG Oelsnitz . In the period that followed, the loose sports group was renamed Halbmond Oelsnitz (1949), later on to Progress Oelsnitz (1952), with the entry of the local half-moon carpet factory as a sponsoring company and the sport association progress .

On a sporting level, progress Oelsnitz was initially represented in the district class area. In 1958 Oelsnitz succeeded after playoffs against the Spvgg. Falkenstein , together with Motor Oberfrohna , activist "Grube Deutschland" Oelsnitz and Aufbau Aue-Bernsbach , the first promotion to the then fourth-class district league Karl-Marx-Stadt . In the district league, the progress acted a total of three seasons until 1961, but they played no role in the possible promotion to the 2nd GDR league . Afterwards, progress Oelsnitz sank again into the insignificance of GDR football and was only represented in the Vogtland local football at league level. In 1956 and 1957 the BSG competed in the FDGB Cup . After qualifying victories over Stahl Silbitz and Chemie Elsterberg, the Vogtlanders lost 1: 5 in the first main round to East German league team Motor Altenburg . In the following year Oelsnitz already failed in the qualification at the ASG Vorwärts Leipzig .

In 1990 the club changed its name to TSV Oelsnitz , in 2001 the football department broke away from TSV and has since appeared again under the name Merkur 06 Oelsnitz . In terms of sport, Merkur 06 commuted between district league and district class after the fall of the Berlin Wall. In 2011 the club played in the Landesliga Sachsen for the first time . In the meantime, however, you had to relegate to lower divisions, in 2016 the promotion from the eight-class district upper league Vogtland to the state class (7th division) succeeded.
