Merremia aegyptia is a plant type from the genus Merremia from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). The species is distributed worldwide in tropical regions.
description
Merremia aegyptia is an herbaceous climber whose stems are usually hairy with very long, protruding, yellowish trichomes . The leaves are long- stalked , the leaf blade is divided into five elliptical, whole-margined, short-stalked and at the base pointed or tapering partial leaves. Both leaf surfaces are sparsely hairy with bristles.
The inflorescences are long stalked , 15 to 30 cm long and consist of six to nine flowers . The flower stalks are 1 to 3 cm long. The buds are pointed. The sepals are elongated, pointed and 2 cm long and hairy with bristles. The crown is white, hairless and 2 to 3 cm long.
The fruits are almost spherical, four-chamber capsules with a diameter of 1 cm. They contain four hairless seeds .
distribution
The species is common in tropical areas of the Old World , America, and the West Indies . It grows in damp to wet thickets at altitudes below 400 m.
