Mervin E. Muller

Mervin Edgar Muller (born June 1, 1928 in Hollywood , California - † December 3, 2018 in Columbus , Ohio ) was an American computer scientist and statistician .

Muller, of Hungarian descent, was born on June 1, 1928 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, to one of four sons to parents Emanuel and Bertha Muller. He earned a bachelor's degree and a degree in mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles . Muller worked for IBM in New York and later at the World Bank in Washington, DC for fifteen years. He taught at UCLA, Cornell University , Princeton University , George Mason University, and the University of Wisconsin – Madison before joining the faculty from Ohio State University , where he retired as Robert Critchfield Professor of Engineering. He was elected a Fellow of the American Statistical Association in 1975 and was founding president of the International Association for Statistical Computing from 1977 to 1979 . He died on December 3, 2018, at the age of 90 in Columbus, Ohio.
