The MerwedeLingelijn ( German  Merwede-Linge line ) is a regional rail -line on the western section of the railway line Elst-Dordrecht in the Netherlands , since 2007 Geldermalsen in the Gelderland province with Dordrecht in the province of Zuid-Holland combines. The line is operated by Qbuzz and is part of the R-net local transport concept .

history

The MerwedeLingelijn has existed since 1885. At that time, only a slow train drove on the route. In 2006 the route was transferred to the province of Zuid-Holland, which awarded the transport operator Arriva the contract for MerwedeLingelijn. At the beginning of the concession, the line was served daily by trains every half hour. In addition, the service of the trains was extended so that it started earlier in the morning and ended later. Arriva also purchased new Stadler GTW trains , which were used from 2008 and were intended to replace the old Mat '64 trains. Since September 5, 2011, the trains between Dordrecht and Gorinchem have been running every quarter of an hour. For this purpose, the Dordrecht – Dordrecht Stadspolders section was expanded into a double-track line. In addition, an additional track for train crossings was created at the Dordrecht Stadspolders and Boven Hardinxveld stations . The OV-chipkaart can be used on the MerwedeLingelijn since September 15, 2011. Between 2011 and 2012, the railway infrastructure company ProRail opened the Dordrecht Stadspolders, Sliedrecht Baanhoek, Hardinxveld Blauwe Zoom and Boven Hardinxveld stations. After talks about a new train station in Leerdam called Leerdam Broekgraaf , the municipality of Leerdam announced in 2016 that it would refrain from building a new station. With the start of the new 2019 annual timetable, Qbuzz was awarded the contract for the new concession, which is issued for eight years with the prospect of an extension of up to seven years. The Gorinchem Noord station is due to open in 2022, and its construction is expected to cost 8.4 million euros.

Arriva bought seven electrically powered Stadler GTW traction vehicles for operation on MerwedeLingelijn . The trains were delivered from April 28, 2008 and they were put into operation on September 14 of the same year. The delivery of three re-ordered trains took place on May 30, 2011. The technical maintenance of the trains is carried out at the subsidiary of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen , NedTrain , in Roosendaal . The trains do not have first class or toilets . With the start of the new concession on December 9, 2018, the trains were taken over by the new operator Qbuzz and are to be renewed in the course of 2019. They should then run in the red and gray colors of R-net and be equipped with a new interior as well as Wi-Fi and USB connections.
