Merxhausen is a district of Heinade , a municipality in the combined municipality of Eschershausen-Stadtoldendorf in the Holzminden district in Lower Saxony .

geography

Merxhausen is on the northeast edge of the Solling on the Spüligbach . In the town center the light flows into this. The Heukenberg lies on the northeastern edge of the village .

history

The name Merxhausen emerged from preliminary stages such as Merkeshusen and Markeshusen. The first written mention of the place is in the mention of a Wastmodus de Merkeshusen in 1268. In the Middle Ages, the Counts of Everstein had tithe rights in Merxhausen. The village then belonged to the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel . A paper mill in the village fell into disrepair after a French attack during the Seven Years' War . Merxhausen later came to the Duchy of Braunschweig . On January 1, 1973, the previously independent community was incorporated into the new Heinade community together with Hellental.

Buildings

The half-timbered chapel in the ensemble with the restored old teacher's house (formerly Pension Haus Berlin) characterizes the central townscape. the chapel was consecrated in 1777 and later rebuilt several times. In 1881 it received a roof turret with a clock. In 1951/1952 the interior of the church was redesigned, the pulpit altar was dismantled and the pulpit was reinstalled in its own location. In 1998 it was named Lydia Chapel. The Protestant parish of the chapel belongs to the Heinade parish, which belongs to the Holzminden-Bodenwerder parish .
