Metello Bichi

Metello Bichi (* 1541 in Siena , † June 14, 1619 in Rome) was an Italian cardinal and Roman Catholic archbishop .

Life

He came from a noble family and was the son of Alessandro Bichi and Porzia Ghini Bandinelli . He completed his studies as a doctor of law "in utroque iure" . Between 1580 and 1582 he was a teacher in Siena . He then went to Rome, where he was received by Orazio Borghese , auditor of the Apostolic Chamber . Camillo Borghese, the future Pope Paul V , recommended him for the episcopate.

On January 15, 1596, he was elected Bishop of Sovana . On February 18 of the same year he was appointed by the future Pope Leo XI. , then Cardinal Alessandro de Medici, consecrated bishop. He took on minor offices in the Roman Curia, but gave up his diocese before June 12, 1606 to settle in Rome, where Paul V reigned. He became the coming abbot of some abbeys.

In the consistory of August 17, 1611 he was elevated to cardinal by Pope Paul V and was awarded the titular church Santi Bonifacio e Alessio on September 12 .

On December 17, 1612 he was appointed Archbishop of Siena . He resigned this office before March 23, 1615.

He died in Rome and was buried in his titular church.
