The Meteor GmbH (ehem. Meteor rubber works K. H. Bädje GmbH & Co. KG , Toyoda Gosei Meteor GmbH , Meteor Elastomer Solutions GmbH ) is a manufacturer of rubber products, especially seals, in Bockenem in Lower Saxony.

General

With around 1000 employees (as of January 2016), the company is one of the largest employers and training companies in the Hildesheim region. In addition to production at its current headquarters in Bockenem, Meteor also has a branch in Worbis , Thuringia, with around 350 employees. The foreign activities include the subsidiary Meteor Sealing Systems , LLC in Dover , Ohio and holdings in LMI Custom Mixing, LLC in Cambridge (Ohio) and, until 2013, in Qingdao Meteor Rubber & Plastics , Co. Ltd. in Qingdao , People's Republic of China .

At Meteor Polymer Products in Obecnice , Czech Republic, plastic injection molded parts are manufactured from single or multiple components and assembly work is carried out. In addition, cellular rubber stampings, foam and soft rubber molded parts are manufactured at this location.

Meteor develops and produces automotive sealing systems. The company is the world market leader in elastomer sealing systems for convertibles and coupés.

history

Meteor was founded in 1951 by Karl-Heinz Bädje in Hildesheim . Production was initially carried out in rented rooms in Lerbach near Osterode am Harz . After moving to the premises of the former Ambergau canning factory in Bockenem in 1954 and the acquisition of large parts of the Bockenem sugar factory in 1959, production capacities were continuously expanded from 1965 to 2001. In the beginning, the company specialized in the manufacture of elastomer products from foamed rubber, known as sponge rubber . In this way, the initially small-scale operation for the production of foam rubber parts to becoming a leading manufacturer of today elastomer - seals .

The Meteor Weigelt GmbH & Co. KG in Bietigheim-Bissingen was from December 2007 to November 2012 a subsidiary of Meteor. There, multi-component plastic parts for the automotive industry and other industrial products are manufactured. This subsidiary was sold to Agor GmbH in Hörselgau by the insolvency administrator.

On January 14, 2012, Meteor Gummiwerke K. H. Bädje GmbH & Co. KG and the subsidiary Meteor Weigelt GmbH & Co. KG filed for insolvency proceedings with the Hildesheim District Court . The insolvency proceedings for the assets of Meteor Gummiwerke and the subsidiary Meteor Weigelt were opened on April 4, 2012 by the Hildesheim District Court. During the bankruptcy proceedings, the number of employees fell from 2,350 in 2011 to 1,100 in 2014.

At the end of January 2014, the takeover by Toyoda Gosei , a company of the Toyota Group, became known. The takeover was completed in April / May 2014. Meteor had undertaken to keep the number of employees in Bockenem at at least 900 people until the spring of 2016, then at least 700 people until the end of 2017 and then no more restrictions. In January 2016, the company announced job cuts.

At the end of December 2019, the Munich-based financial investor AEQUITA and the automotive supplier Prettl took over Meteor GmbH from the Japanese Toyoda Gosei. The company name was changed to Meteor Elastomer Solutions GmbH .
