Metis Iceland ( English , Bulgarian остров Метис ostrow Metis ) is a western-east in alignment 820 m long, 140 m wide and 8.4 hectare large island in the archipelago of Biscoe islands west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is 540 m off the west coast of Lavoisier Island , 6.8 km south-southwest of Newburgh Point and 12.35 km northeast of Zagrade Point on Krogh Island .
The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named them in 2020 after Metis , lover of Zeus and mother of Athena from Greek mythology .
