The Metropolis Hall in the Babelsberg district of Potsdam is a multifunctional hall for large events such as congresses, trade fairs, galas, award ceremonies, TV shows and other TV productions. It is located in the media city of Babelsberg , which is also home to the Babelsberg Film Studio and the Babelsberg Film Park.

The name was based on the film Metropolis by Fritz Lang selected, the shot at the Babelsberg film studios in 1926 and the first film ever at the World Heritage of UNESCO was taken.

history

The Metropolis hall was opened on October 10, 2008 after a ten-month construction period. The total investment was 10 million euros, which was funded with 2.1 million euros from funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and from budget funds from the federal government and the state of Brandenburg .

building

The design of the Metropolis Hall is based on the architecture of the film studios of the early days . The studio with a ceiling height of 14 meters has a studio area of ​​3038 m². The hall can hold up to 5000 people for concerts and can be made smaller using a partition. In the glazed foyer there is a further 1000 m² available for exhibitions, presentations or the break area. The doors lead to the forecourt of the Vulkan-Arena of the Babelsberg Film Park.

The administrative wing above the large area has six multi-purpose rooms between 50 m² and 120 m² as well as additional functional rooms.

Transport links

900 parking spaces are available in the hall. The “Filmpark” bus stop is in the immediate vicinity of the hall and offers connections to Potsdam Central Station , among other things . The Potsdam Medienstadt Babelsberg train station is approx. 500 m away and , in addition to bus lines from ViP Verkehrsbetrieb Potsdam GmbH , regional train and regional express lines from DB stop here.
