Michèle Mercier , born Jocelyne Yvonne Renée Mercier (born January 1, 1939 in Nice , France ) is a French actress .

Life

Michèle Mercier is the daughter of a pharmacist and an Italian. She began as a ballet dancer at the Opéra de Nice and went on to become a solo dancer. At seventeen she went to the Paris Opera Ballet under Roland Petit and took private acting lessons.

After initially small roles in French films, some film people were aware of the talented actress (among other things she played the Clarisse at the side of Charles Aznavour in François Truffaut's Shoot the Piano Player ), eventually by Bernard Borderie discovered was, and he with her shot the Angélique series (based on the books by Anne Golon ). The films had an immense success, but on the other hand, the image of 'Angélique' stuck to her.

In the 70s, only minor roles followed in second-rate films, heralding the end of her acting career. From 2000 onwards she published several books dealing with herself, her role as 'Angélique' and other topics.
