Michael J. Benton

Michael James "Mike" Benton (born April 8, 1956 ) is Professor of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol . Since 2001 he has been the “Head of Department”. Benton is the author of numerous non-fiction books ; many of them were also published in German.

life and work

Michael Benton has published numerous scientific papers since the late 1970s that have appeared in recognized journals , including Nature . In addition, he also appears as the author of several textbooks in paleontology , as well as numerous popular scientific non-fiction books , especially for children, with dinosaurs being the main focus. Benton was a scientific advisor for many television documentaries , including the BBC series " Dinosaurs - In the Empire of the Giants " (Original: "Walking with Dinosaurs"). In 2008 he was elected a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and in 2014 a member of the Royal Society .

In 2005 he received the Lyell Medal . For 2020 Benton was awarded the Jean Baptiste Lamarck Medal of the European Geosciences Union .
