Michael Bey (born November 24, 1876 ; † 1947 ) was a German politician ( KPD , SED ) and resistance fighter against National Socialism . He was the first mayor of Ströbitz after the Second World War .

Life

Michael Bey was a trained cloth maker. In 1923 he founded the Ströbitzer local group of the KPD together with Georg Dix . After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists , leading members of the Cottbus KPD were arrested at the end of March 1933 , including Georg Dix. Then Michael Bey became part of the party leadership. He was appointed political leader and group leader for Ströbitz. During this time, the members of the now banned KPD were busy distributing leaflets and Die Rote Fahne . In June and July 1933, other members of the Cottbus KPD were arrested. Besides Michael Bey, Helene Kirsch and Max Döring were among them . The trial against Bey and 24 other party members took place between April 10 and 12, 1934, in the courtroom of the Cottbus regional court . In the indictment they were accused of "having within the country, particularly in Cottbus and the surrounding area in the period from March to July 1933 jointly and continue to change the treasonable enterprise, the Constitution of the German Reich by force, prepared." . Bey was a leading member to two years' imprisonment convicted. With the exception of two co-defendants, who were acquitted for lack of evidence, all other defendants received prison or penal sentences of at least one year. Bey had to serve his sentence in the Brandenburg-Görden prison. During this time, the illegal activities of the banned KPD in Cottbus were continued by the resistance group around Willy Jannasch . However, this was also smashed in 1936. After his release, Bey kept in touch with former members of the KPD.

After Cottbus was liberated by the Red Army , Bey was appointed mayor of Ströbitz by the local command. In this function he worked closely with Max Döring, who had been appointed mayor of Cottbus. After the forced unification of the SPD and KPD to form the SED in 1946, Bey founded the SED local group Ströbitz, of which he also became chairman. Michael Bey died a year later.
