Michael East (athlete)
Michael East , also Michael John "Mike" East (born January 20, 1978 in Reading ) is a former British middle-distance runner who specialized in the 1,500-meter course .
Life
In 2002 he won bronze at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Vienna , starting gold for England at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and finished sixth at the European Championships in Munich .
At the World Athletics Championships in 2003 in Paris / Saint-Denis, he reached the semi-finals, and at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he was sixth.
Then he had knee problems so that he was eliminated in the semifinals of the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki and the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg.
In 2007, he underwent two surgeries, and his National Lottery funding was canceled without warning. In the following summer he undercut the qualification norm for the Olympic Games in Beijing , but was only eighth in the elimination race of the British Federation and then ended his career.
Michael East started for the Newham & Essex Beagles association.
