Michael Endres (Manager)

Michael Heinrich Endres (born October 28, 1937 in Munich ) is a German lawyer and bank manager . He is a former board member of Deutsche Bank AG and former chairman of the supervisory board of Hypo Real Estate AG . From 2012 to 2016 he was chairman of the board of trustees and is now honorary chairman of the board of trustees of the non-profit Hertie Foundation .

Life

Michael Endres studied business administration and law in Munich, Paris and Berlin. After his doctorate as Dr. jur. at the University of Munich in 1966 he started out in the legal department of Wacker Chemie , Munich, but moved to Deutsche Bank in 1968 . After working in Mannheim and Frankfurt am Main, he set up their London branch in the early 1980s. On January 1, 1988, he was appointed to the Board of Management of Deutsche Bank. There he was a close employee of the murdered board spokesman Alfred Herrhausen . He held this office until 1998. On December 31, 1998, he retired.

In addition, Endres u. a. Member of the supervisory board of Daimler-Benz AG (1993 to 1998) and ARCOR Verwaltungs-AG (1997 to 2006). From November 2008 to August 2009 he was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Hypo Real Estate and accompanied the nationalization of the company during his tenure .

From 2000 to 2011 Michael Endres was chairman of the board of the non-profit Hertie Foundation . From 2012 to 2016 he chaired the board of trustees of the non-profit Hertie Foundation . In addition, he continues to hold several mandates in the financial sector, in higher education and in cultural institutions (list see below).

Michael Endres received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in 2004 . In 2015 he was recognized for his commitment a. a. at START and the Hertie School of Governance with the Cross of Merit 1st Class excellent.

He is married and has three daughters.
