Michael Gabel

Michael Gabel (born January 12, 1953 in Erfurt ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian , clergyman and university professor .

Life

Gabel completed his schooling in Erfurt. There he passed his Abitur in 1971 with distinction. After completing language training in Halle in 1971/1972 , he studied theology with a focus on fundamental theology at the Philosophical-Theological Studies in Erfurt until 1976 . There, before he received his diploma on December 18, 1976, he was awarded on November 15, 1975 for the prize work The Establishment of Human Dignity according to the Vaticanum secundum . He also completed his studies with excellent ratings. In 1977 and 1978 he completed the pastoral seminar with a focus on religious education. He was ordained a priest on June 24, 1978 and then worked as a vicar.

Gabel was appointed research assistant on August 1, 1981 and accepted as a candidate for a licentiate on September 23, 1981 . During this time until 1987 he was also prefect at the Erfurt seminary. On January 22, 1985, he received his licentiate in theology with the work Confrontation with the understanding of the spirit of the modern age from Max Scheler. Inquiry into the criticism of the modern age . From May 1, 1987 to June 30, 1989 he was a lecturer in the parish clerk training of the Episcopal Office of Erfurt-Meiningen . From July 1, 1987 to June 30, 1990, he was also a member of the pastoral care office of the Episcopal Office in Erfurt-Meiningen with the title of pastor . In addition, from 1989 he held a teaching position for fundamental theology. On May 5, 1990 he was with the dissertation The phenomenological approach with Max Scheler. Examination of the understanding of intentionality in Max Scheler "The formalism in ethics and the material ethics of values" for Dr. theol. PhD . He also worked as a clergyman in Ichtershausen . He is still a volunteer priest there today.

From 1993, Gabel was active as a lecturer in fundamental theology at the Philosophical-Theological Studies. October 1, 2000 he became a full professor appointed theology and the Chair of Fundamental Theology and Religious Studies at the Theological Faculty Erfurt appointed . With the integration of the theological faculty into the University of Erfurt , he became a full university professor and dean of studies for the faculty, previously he was the prorector of the independent faculty. From 2008 to 2010 he was also the chairman of the Catholic Theological Faculty Conference in Germany and from 2009 to 2013 chairman, since 2013 deputy chairman of the Max Scheler Society .

From 2011 to 2017, Gabel was dean of the theological faculty at the University of Erfurt
